As the warm and beautiful spring season approaches, it’s time to think about your oral health. What is better than having a strong, successful, and stunning smile while you swim in the pool, have picnics at the park, and go on beautiful hikes? That’s right—nothing! So, to help you have the smile you have always wanted this spring, our Richmond Orthodontics team recommends doing the following things:
Replace old or worn toothbrushes
It’s best to replace your toothbrush every 3-4 months or when your toothbrush bristles are worn out. This is important because when the brush is frayed, it’s not as effective. Also, the longer you have your toothbrush, the more bacteria and germs it can harbor. So, this is a great time to replace your brush if necessary.
Check the expiration date on your mouthwash
Using expired mouthwash is never helpful. It probably doesn’t taste very good either. So, make sure your mouthwash is still safe and efficient by checking its expiration date. If it’s expired, feel free to grab a new rinse at the store.
Replenish your floss supply
It’s generally recommended to use about 18 inches of floss during each flossing session. Now, because you use so much floss, it’s easy to run out. So, it’s best to use this time to stock up on floss so you don’t have to worry about going a day without flossing.
Schedule your next orthodontist appointment
If you haven’t received an orthodontist checkup recently, it’s time to schedule one! Visiting your orthodontist regularly is extremely important, especially because they help you straighten your smile and they want your smile to stay healthy, so please remember to schedule the appointment at your earliest convenience.
Dr. Bryan Brassington, Dr. Curt Wiltshire, or Dr. Kevin Bibona and our team care for you and your smile, which is why we encourage you to work toward a successful oral health by using these tips. To make things a bit easier, just include these tasks on your spring-cleaning checklist! That way you won’t forget to care for your smile while you clean your home.
