What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Invisalign is a nearly invisible treatment, and others may not even notice that you are receiving orthodontic treatment unless you tell them. Your aligners are also removable, making it easy for you to brush, floss, and eat normally. The technology used in creating your aligners allows you to view the results of your treatment in advance, so you can know what your teeth should look like once your treatment is complete.

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign works by controlling the movement of your teeth, using different aligners (which you will switch out every 2 weeks or so) to control the timing of this movement and the specific teeth which move in each stage of treatment. This gives Invisalign an efficient force delivery system that moves your teeth into the desired position.

What are the aligners made of?

Your aligners are made of medical grade thermoplastic material, specifically developed for Invisalign treatments. They are custom made using computer technology to fit snugly over your teeth.

How often do I need to visit my orthodontist while using Invisalign aligners?

Your appointment intervals are generally the same as with traditional braces. You will need to visit our office every 4-6 weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned and receive your next few sets of Invisalign aligners. If necessary, our orthodontists will schedule your follow-up appointments more frequently.

Are dental crowns a factor in Invisalign treatment?

Dental crowns are not usually a problem when receiving an Invisalign treatment. However, sometimes the location of the crown can be problematic, and will require careful evaluation. Our orthodontists will provide you with more information during your initial consultation.

What kind of problems does Invisalign correct?

Invisalign is used to treat all the same problems as braces. This includes:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Crowded teeth
  • Misaligned teeth
  • Bad bites – open bites, crossbites, overbites, underbites, etc.

My teeth have shifted since I stopped wearing braces. Can Invisalign correct this?

Yes. Many Invisalign patients have undergone previous orthodontic treatment with braces. Invisalign can usually correct the shifting that occurs after braces.

I’m wearing braces now. Can I switch to Invisalign?

There are many orthodontic patients who are treatment with a combination of Invisalign and traditional braces. Check with our orthodontists to determine the most beneficial treatment for you.

How often do I need to wear my aligners?

You should wear your aligners at all times during your treatment, only removing them to eat, brush, and floss your teeth.

Will the aligners affect my speech or eating habits?

No. Most patients report no effect on speech while wearing their aligners. As your aligners are removable, no changes need to be made to your eating habits. We do recommend that you avoid eating while wearing your aligners and that you clean both your aligners and your teeth thoroughly before replacing your appliance in your mouth.

What is the best way to clean my aligners?
The best way to clean your aligners is by brushing and rinsing them in lukewarm water. You can use toothpaste, special cleaning tablets, liquid soap, or the Invisalign Cleaning Crystals to clean them. You should brush your teeth after each meal and prior to re-inserting your aligners to maintain good oral hygiene and avoid developing tooth decay or other problems.
