If you have questions about brushing when you have braces, then our orthodontist, Dr. Bryan Brassington, encourages you to find the answers quickly. The sooner you know all about brushing, the better chance you have of properly and effectively caring for your teeth, gums and braces and the better chance you have of preventing dental issues during your orthodontic journey. To help you get started on finding your answers, our orthodontist would like to share the answers to the following commonly asked questions:

Question No. 1: How often should I brush?
Answer: It’s strongly recommended to brush after each meal. When you brush, it’s best to use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. These tools can properly and effectively clean your smile and appliance.

Question No. 2: Why should I brush?
Answer: Brushing helps you clean your teeth, gums and braces regularly. It can remove the food particles, bacteria and debris that can promote dental issues, like cavities and periodontal disease. Brushing can also help you prevent embarrassing food-filled-smile moments when you’re socializing.

Question No. 3: Are there tools that make brushing easier?
Answer: There are many tools that make brushing easier. One of those tools is an interdental brush. This brush is small and handy. It can clean the hard-to-reach spaces in your appliance and smile with ease.
