Do you want the best and most successful orthodontic treatment possible? If so, it’s important to take good care of your smile while you are aligning your teeth. Some of the best ways to do so are to keep up on oral hygiene, attend your checkups, and wear a mouthguard while you are active. However, additional ways to take good care of your braces and teeth are to have the proper diet and avoid teeth-harming habits. To help you do so, our Richmond Orthodontics team recommends doing the following things:
-Avoid sticky foods, such as: Gum, sticky candy, caramel apples, gooey granola bars, caramel candy bars, fruit roll-ups, Skittles, Starbursts, toffee, taffy, and gummy bears.
-Avoid hard or tough foods, like: Pizza crust, hard candy, popcorn, bagels, nuts, corn chips, and ice cubes.
-Cut the following foods into small pieces before eating them: Apples, carrots, corn on the cob, pizza, pears, celery, chicken wings, and spare ribs.
-Avoid teeth-harming habits, like: chewing on ice, pens, pencils, and fingernails.
