If you have braces, it’s very important to obey the oral hygiene rules set for orthodontic treatment. These rules can help you care for your teeth, gums and appliance and they can even help you have a more successful and convenient orthodontic journey. Our orthodontist is happy to remind you of the rules to follow on our blog today. Those rules are:
-Brush often: Do your best to brush after each meal and snack. To do this, keep your toothbrush and toothpaste with you. Brushing often can remove food substances from your teeth and braces. It can also help you avoid embarrassing food-filled smile moments!
-Use interdental brushes: Interdental brushes can clean the spaces of your smile and appliance that your toothbrush could not reach. So, make sure to use them often so you can remove the harmful substances that attack the teeth and gums.
-Floss regularly: Flossing is very important, so make sure to floss at least once a day. If you can, floss more. Fortunately, there are many products available that can make flossing with braces easier, like water flossers and floss threaders.
-Rinse your mouth daily: Rinsing with antibacterial or fluoride mouthwash can help you clean the mouth, strengthen the smile and remove plaque and bacteria from the teeth and gums. Make sure to rinse once a day.
