If you want to have a good spring break, like many of us do, then you need to keep your orthodontic aligners in the best shape possible. This is recommended because if you don’t care for your aligners, you can suffer problems while you’re out on vacation. So, our orthodontist, Dr. Bryan Brassington, encourages you to have a good spring break with aligners by doing the following things:
-Pack your oral hygiene kit: This is important because you will need to clean your teeth, gums and aligner regularly. Your kit should include tools to clean your smile as well as tools to clean your aligner.
-Clean your smile regularly: It’s very important to eliminate the food particles and bacteria from your teeth and gums often. This is because if you don’t remove them, they can get trapped under your aligner. As time passes, they can start to wear down the enamel and harm it.
-Take your aligner out of your mouth before eating: This is important because eating or chewing gum with the aligner in your mouth can damage the appliance. When it’s damaged, it won’t be able to properly align the smile and it will be more noticeable to those around you.
